SafeHarbor is a disaster recovery colocation facility that offers members the ability to provide real-time, up-to-the-minute information via "Safe Harbor" websites and systems in case of disaster or other emergencies. The service offers an opportunity for campuses throughout the north east to create a light-weight disaster recovery and business continuity service at a shared site, while also allowing campuses to buy server room space, power, alternate telecommunications and other necessary services.
Located in Springfield, MA, this facility allows colleges and other institutions and agencies to maintain remote systems that will be accessible should statewide emergency affect normal services in the North East. The power of high speed Internet network connectivity could be utilized to communicate with people outside an immediate affected area, should disaster damage the local communications infrastructure.
The Safe Harbor site offers metered power and the followingamenities:
- An allocation of secure NewShelter SX 48U 600mm wide x 1070mm deep rack space.
- A high capacity internet connection to connect the servers to the Internet from the facility.
- A high capacity link to the home campus via NEREN and local State networks for server management.
- Technical assistance in coordinating DNS, remote management and networking issues for the site.
