Delivering Video Commons 2.0
In 2016, OSHEAN evaluated what IT capabilities would make the biggest impact for its membership base of leading healthcare organizations, colleges and universities, K-12 schools, libraries, government agencies, and other community organizations -- and the overwhelming response was multimedia technology, on-demand video webcasting and interactive visual communications tools. Strategically selecting the right technology and business partners was the next critical step in making the new service offering, Video Commons 2.0, a reality.
OSHEAN was seeking on-demand video webcasting and visual communications partners with three primary areas of expertise: technical capability, integrated workflow experience and business/support acumen with regional education networks (REN) such as OSHEAN.
OSHEAN ultimately selected Mediasite/Sonic Foundry and Vidyo/ID Solutions for several reasons, including:
- Both were able to accommodate an “On-Net” cloud solution that leveraged OSHEAN’s Beacon 2.0 and Internet2 backbone.
- The vendors agreed to a business model that accommodated consortium/group rates – enabling OSHEAN to offer the service to members at a favorable price.
- Both offer outstanding technical support departments in accordance with OSHEAN’s commitment to its members.
Through these strategic partnerships, OSHEAN is able to deliver the next generation Video Commons 2.0 service, a cutting-edge collaboration tool that enables members to achieve new levels of interactive communications. Powered by Mediasite and Vidyo, this “On-Net” streaming service provides the essential tools needed to facilitate face-to-face interactive web conferencing and multipoint video conferencing along with on-demand webcast applications such as flipped classroom learning, distance learning and continuing medical education.
