|Spotlight On Rob Gay|
Meet Robert Gay, The Manager of Technical Programs and Services
Robert coordinates with members, vendors, and OSHEAN staff to ensure OSHEAN is delivering services in an effective manner. Robert plays a big role in the wide range of services OSHEAN provides including its core IP services, leased circuits, dark fiber, colo/disaster recovery sites, hosted cloud services, and VMware licensing.
How do OSHEAN members benefit from what Robert does?
Robert's goal is to make it easy for members to work with OSHEAN. If he can take away some of the headaches of managing multiple vendor contracts and services, this will allow members to focus on their core projects. He is constantly looking for new ways to get better pricing on services for members, which will allow members to do more with their technology budgets.
VMware: Something Members can Look Forward to
OSHEAN is now 9 months into a 3 year, $1M Enterprise Licensing Agreement with VMware. Robert says a new amendment with the ELA has just been completed allowing a number of members to renew their existing support contracts under the ELA at a discount.
"Last month, we hosted two well attended onsite VMware multi-day training sessions. To date, we estimate members have collectively saved over $250,000 on these VMware services."
Since moving to Rhode Island in the 1990s, Robert has worked for the CIS department at Brown University for 10 years, and spent the next 10 years in network and telecommunications consulting, both on his own and with Broad Reach.
Out of the Office
Robert gets a break from the office he enjoys playing tennis in the
summer and a variation of tennis called platform tennis in the winter.
He likes to spend time outdoors where he runs and has even gone
skydiving. He has hopes to go hang gliding in the future. When Robert
can't get outdoors, he enjoys reading and doing crossword puzzles.
