Part 2 - Larry Wilson

Larry Wilson, CISO for the University of Massachusetts President’s Office, has developed a course that instructs students on a practical approach for designing and building a cybersecurity program. The course is based on work that Larry has lead at the University as well as consulting engagements with other organizations. He will explain the key aspects of the training and how it relates to building a comprehensive program.

The University cybersecurity program is based on the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF), which was issued on February 12, 2014, as directed by President Obama in Executive Order 13636. The Executive Order calls for the development of a voluntary Cybersecurity Framework that provides a “prioritized, flexible, repeatable, performance-based, and cost-effective approach” for assisting organizations responsible for critical infrastructure services to manage cybersecurity risk. Many organizations across all industry sectors are adopting the NIST Framework as the foundation of their cybersecurity programs.
