Tech Collective along with its partners Workforce Solutions of Providence/Cranston and the Workforce Partnership of Greater RI were recently awarded a USDOL H-1B Ready To Work Grant (also known as “Tech Force RI”). This grant focuses on training long term unemployed workers to fill mid-level jobs in IT occupations that employers have difficulty filling.  One of the training strategies being utilized is the IT On Demand Program, which was developed after receiving feedback from employers that they were having difficulty finding individuals for their mid-level position.  It targets unemployed/underemployed workers who have prior education/experience in IT, but need additional skills to obtain mid-level employment.   Training components include:

  • Recruitment- Recruitment, Assessment, and Selection of Participants
  • RI IT Industry Overview
  • Technical Training- Determined by employers prior to each program session based on the current need
  • Business/Soft Skills Training (Bryant University EDC)- Business Management Certificate Program (10 days)
  • Job Search Techniques
  • Experiential Learning/Internship- 8 weeks hosted at a local company
  • Job Placement

Tech Collective is conducting a survey to determine the technical training component for the ITOD Program that will begin in the fall of 2015. To ensure we select a technical training/certification for the skills/jobs that are in high demand, we are asking IT employers to complete this survey by clicking on this link and answering 5 questions.  .  If someone else in your organization is the best person to respond, please forward this email/survey link to him/her.
